Corey Allen

Actor-director

Born - 29 June 1934, Cleveland, Ohio, USA
Died - 27 June 2010

Fair-haired, fresh-faced American actor, born Corey Allen Cohen, often seen as aggressive juveniles, most notably as the drag-racing Buzz Gunderson in Rebel without a Cause (1955). Later, he became a director and acting coach. Just 19 when he broke into films, Allen's early work includes the award-winning short Time Out of War (1954), as well as The Mad Magician (1954), The Bridges at Toko-Ri (1954), The Night of the Hunter (1955), Shadow on the Window (1957), Juvenile Jungle (1958, and a rare leading role) and Party Girl (1958). He also appeared in scores of TV episodes and a few further films - including Key Witness (1960) and Sweet Bird of Youth (1962) - but was never really able to escape typecasting and turned to direction in the late 1960s, making dozens of drama episodes, including one for the series Hill Street Blues that won him an Emmy. His last work as an actor - Mr M - and director both came in 1994. He suffered from Parkinson's Disease in his later years.
