Mary Tyler Moore

Actress

Born - 29 December 1936, New York City, USA
Died - 25 January 2017

Bright, pretty, dark-haired American actress, comedienne, singer and dancer who became a TV icon over the years, especially in The Dick Van Dyke Show and The Mary Tyler Moore Show. She suffered considerable traumas in her private life - her only son accidentally shot himself at 20 and her sister died at 41 - and never achieved the same glittering success in films, despite an Oscar nomination for Ordinary People. From then on, her natural sparkle was often subdued in anguished roles. Occasional film appearances included those in Once Upon a Horse (1958), X-15 (1961), Thoroughly Modern Millie (1967), What's So Bad About Feeling Good? (1968), Change of Habit (1969), Ordinary People (1980), Six Weeks (1982), Just Between Friends (1986), Gore Vidal's Lincoln (1988), Flirting With Disaster (1996), Labor Pains (1999), Cheaters/Cheats (2001) and Against the Current (2009), her last. Three times married, she died from cardiopulmonary arrest after a bout of pneumonia.
