Full-faced, tawny-haired, friendly-looking Irish actress, mostly on stage, but also a star of minor British films - and one or two major ones - in the 1960s. In between many stage engagements, she was also seen in a few film character roles in her later days. On stage at Dublin's famous Abbey Theatre at 16, and on TV from 1951, her film debut came in Rooney (1958). Subsequently she was seen in Only the Wind (1961), A Guy Called Caesar (1962), Ulysses (1967), Otley (1968), Paddy (1970), On a Paving Stone Mounted (1977), The Flame is Love (1979), Summer Lightning (1984), the short Changelings (1993) and Snakes and Ladders (1996), her last. A marriage to the Irish actor Milo O'Shea ended in divorce.
