Lynn Redgrave

Actress

Born - 8 March 1943, London, England
Died - 2 May 2010

Cherubic, bouncy, light-haired actress from a famous film and theatre family. Daughter of Michael Redgrave, her warm, offbeat personality was first seen in films in Tom Jones and Girl with Green Eyes (both 1963), but it was the title role in Georgy Girl (1966), as a clumsy, unloved teacher, that catapulted her into the public eye and won her an Oscar nomination. After that, though, suitable roles seemed hard to find, although there were many more films, and she was always interesting in them: Smashing Time (1967), The Virgin Soldiers (1969), Every Little Crook and Nanny (1972), The National Health (1973), The Big Bus (1976), Summer Lovers (1980), Getting It Right (1989), with sister Vanessa in a TV version of Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? (1991), Shine (1996), Gods and Monsters (1998, and another Oscar nomination), Spider (2002), Peter Pan (2003), The Jane Austen Book Club (2007) and Confessions of a Shopaholic (2009), her last. She died from breast cancer just a month after the death of her older brother Corin.
