Miriam Seegar

Actress

Born - 1 September 1907, Greentown, Indiana, USA
Died - 2 January 2011

Petite, oval-faced, willowy, usually blonde American actress who began her career at the end of the silents and squeezed all of her films into a five-year period before retiring to marry American director Tim Whelan, 14 years her senior. Whelan died in 1957 and she also outlived both her sons by him. Her film debut came in Valley of the Ghosts (1928). Other starring roles (in which she was often billed as Miriam Seeger) followed in When Knights Were Bold (1929, made during the first of a number of trips to Britain with her husband), Seven Keys to Baldpate (1929), The Dawn Trail (1930), Madame Julie (1931) and a quartet in 1932: Out of Singapore, The Famous Ferguson Case, Strangers of the Evening and What Price Beauty?, her last. In her forties, she began a new career as an interior decorator, which she pursued for 40 years.
