Dark-haired, narrow-faced, bearded, menacing-looking English actor, long on stage with the Royal Shakespeare Company. Films came much later, and included Nostradamus (2006), Good (2008), Bright Star (2009), Brighton Rock (2010), Wild Target (2010), A Little Chaos (2014), The Crucible (2014), Residue (2015), Suffragette (2015), The Secret Agent (2015), The Danish Girl (2015), A Cure for Wellness (2016), Beauty and the Beast (2017), Ashes in the Snow (2018), The Mercy (2018), Tolkien (2019) and Censor (2021), his last. Died from an ischaemic stroke at 60.
