Boyishly handsome, solidly built American actor with dark, curly hair, a teenage idol after his appearances as Moondoggie in the 'Gidget' films, who later became a best-selling singer. Born James Ercolani, his film appearances include those in Rumble on the Docks (1956), Operation Mad Ball (1957), The Brothers Rico (1957), Gunman's Walk (1958), Gidget (1959), Drum Crazy/The Gene Krupa Story (1959), All the Young Men (1960), Let No Man Wrote My Epitaph (1960), Gidget Goes Hawaiian (1961), The Guns of Navarone (1961), Diamond Head (1962), Gidget Goes to Rome (1963), The Lively Set (1964), Venus in Furs (1969), City Beneath the Sea (1971), The Boss's Son (1978), Random Acts (2001) and Lucky (2017), his last. He died from heart problems, survived by his (second) wife of 64 years, Danish actress/model Evy Norlund.
