Digby Wolfe

Fair-haired entertainer of cheerful good looks, a teenage actor who became a top comedy writer, with later career spells in Australia and America. Born James Digby Wolfe, he began his screen career playing a schoolboy in The Guinea Pig (1948) and was subsequently seen in The Weaker Sex (1948), Landfall (1949), Adam and Evelyne (1949), Stage Fright (1950), Worm's Eye View (1951, The Dark Man (1951), Little Big Shot (1952), A Tale of Three Women (1954), For Better, For Worse (1954) and The Big Money (1956). He went to Australia, where he hosted TV variety shows, then on to America, as a comedy writer, his greatest success being as one of the main gag writers for TV phenomenon Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In. He also provided one of the voices in Disney's Jungle Book (1967). After another spell in Australia, he returned to America for good, dying there from lung cancer. One source gives his year of birth as 1925.
