Tall, elegant, patrician, blonde American co-star actress, whose film career spanned six decades. A cousin of Woolworth heiress Barbara Hutton, Merrill, born Nedenia Hutton, was a latecomer to TV and film acting after 10 years in the theatre. Starting too late to become a big star, she still achieved good billing in most of her films: His Other Woman/Desk Set (1957), A Nice Little Bank That Should Be Robbed (1958), Operation Petticoat (1959), The Sundowners (1960), BUtterfield 8 (1960), The Young Savages (1961), The Courtship of Eddie's Father (1963), I'll Take Sweden (1965), The Sunshine Patriot (1968), One Soldier's Gamble (1970), Running Wild (1973), The Meal (1975), The Greatest (1977), A Wedding (1978), Just Tell Me What You Want (1980), Anna to the Infinite Power (1983), Twisted (1986), Caddyshack II (1988), Fear (1990), True Colors (1991), The Player (1992), Milk & Money (1996), Mighty Joe Young (1998), The Other Sister (1999), Shade (2003) and Beyond a Reasonable Doubt (2009), her last. She was married for 20 years to her first husband, then 21 to her second (actor Cliff Robertson). She had been married for more than 27 years to her third husband, actor/producer Ted Hartley, at the time of her death from Lewy Body dementia.
