A career in strong supporting roles, often in action or gangster dramas, followed: The Perils of Paulette (1965), Star! (1968), A Fine Pair (1968), The French Connection (1971), Serpico (1973), The Seven-Ups (1973), Golderod (1976), F.I.S.T. (1978), Bloodbrothers (1978), Separate Ways (1981), City Heat (1984), Body of Evidence (1988), City of Hope (1991), Boiling Point (1993), Nixon (1995), The Juror (1996), Mafia! (1998), The Day the Ponies Came Back (2000), Endangered Species (2002), The Last Request (2006), Frame of Mind (2009), Kill the Irishman (2011), Send No Flowers (2013), Blondie (2016), 79 Parts: Director's Cut (2019) and Somewhere in Queens (2022), his last. Three times married, he died from prostate cancer.
