Cheerful-looking American director with high forehead who made dozens of TV movies, and several of the pivotal episodes in the cult TV series Moonlighting. Scattered cinema films include Hidden and Seeking (1971), Findhorn (1974), a shared Oscar for In the Region of Ice (1976), Don't Cry, It's Only Thunder (1981), Prisoners (1983), No Man's Land (1987), Death Merchants (1991) and A Dog Named Christmas (2009), his last. He died after complications from a ruptured aorta.
