Terry Richards

Stuntman/actor

Born - 2 November 1932, Lewisham, London, UK
Died - 14 June 2014

Tall, dark, swarthy south Londoner (of Welsh parentage) who made his own little niche in film history as the sword-twirling Egyptian tribesman cursorily shot dead by Harrison Ford in Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981), a scene improvised by Ford who was feeling too unwell for a duel. Born David Terence Richards, he began life as a stuntman in the late 1950s, performing stunts in such films as The Vikings (1958), Zulu (1963), From Russia with Love (1963) and Goldfinger (1964), the latter the first two of many James Bond films with which he was associated. Films in which he actually had small action roles included The Dirty Dozen (1967), The Last Valley (1971), The Pink Panther Strikes Again (1976), Flash Gordon (1980), Red Sonja (1985), Haunted Summer (1988), Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (1991), Tomorrow Never Dies (1997) and The World is Not Enough (1999), his last. In his prime, Richards also toured with a jousting show.
