Returning to America, he built up a formidable CV in films and TV, often as bright, sometimes naive young men: I Was a Male War Bride (1949), The Red Badge of Courage (1951), The Blue Veil (1951), Red Skies of Montana (1952), Dreamboat (1952), Julius Caesar (1953), Jennifer (1953), Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1953), The Command (1954), Johnny Dark (1954), Tight Spot (1955), This Island Earth (1955), Mother, Sir! (1956), Hold Back the Night (1956), No Sleep Till Dawn (1957), Don't Go Near the Water (1957), Imitation General (1958) and The 30ft Bride of Candy Rock (1959). On a second visit to England, he made Don't Bother to Knock (1961), The Amorous Prawn (1962), The Victors (1963), Call Me Bwana (1963) and The Yellow Rolls-Royce (1964). Later movies included The Out-of-Towners (1970), They Only Kill Their Masters (1972), Pete 'n' Tillie (1972), Westworld (1973), God Told Me To (1976), Reuben, Reuben (1983), Billions for Boris (1985) and So I Married an Axe Murderer (1993), his last. His wife Jennifer was a prominent Hollywood wardrobe supervisor. He died from heart failure.
