Genial, chubby-faced American musician with thick, dark curly hair, born Morris Mac Davis. In the sixties, he wrote songs for Elvis Presley movies, while his own voice was first heard in The Heart is a Lonely Hunter (1968). As an actor, he was seen as countrified characters in North Dallas Forty (1979), Cheaper to Keep Her (1980), The Sting II (1983), Brothers-in-Law (1985), What Price Victory (1988), Blackmail (1991), Possums (1997), Angel's Dance (1999), Jackpot (2001), Where the Red Fern Grows (2003), True Vinyl (2004), The Wendell Baker Story (2005), Beer for My Horses (2008) and Where the Fast Lane Ends (2017), his last, as well as the film documentaries Flat Land Open Sky (2015) and The Seven Ages of Elvis (2017). Three times married, he died following complications from heart surgery.
