Elizabeth Sellars

Born - 6 March 1921, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland
Died - 30 December 2019

Cool, elegant, brunette Scottish actress of slightly discontented prettiness. After stage experience from 1946, she made a belated film debut at 28. Cast as a neurotic young woman in her first film, Floodtide (1949), she often thereafter found herself in roles of anguish, latterly as hardened, unsympathetic wives. Subsequent films include Madeleine (1950), Guilt is My Shadow (1950), Night Was Our Friend (1951), Cloudburst (1951), The Long Memory (1952), Hunted (1952), Recoil (1953), The Broken Horseshoe (1953), Forbidden Cargo (1954), The Barefoot Contessa (1954), Three Cases of Murder (1955), The Last Man to Hang (1956), The Man in the Sky (1956), The Shiralee (1957), Law and Disorder (1958), Jet Storm (1959), The Day They Robbed the Bank of England (1960), Never Let Go (1960), The Webster Boy (1962), The Chalk Garden (1963), The Mummy's Shroud (1967) and The Hireling (1973). The remainder of her career was principally spent in the theatre, her only remaining on-screen appearance being in the TV movie A Ghost in Monte Carlo (1990). She died at her home in France.
