Acerbic, fluffily dark-haired American comedian and comic character actor. Nicknamed The Prince of Pain, he earned a good living writing jokes for other performers before turning stand-up in 1971, specialising in Woody Allen-type humour. Film appearances include those in Diary of a Young Comic (1979), Temporary Insanity (1985), The Wrong Guys (1988), That's Adequate (1989), Once Upon a Crime (1991), Robin Hood: Men in Tights (1993), Wagons East (1994), Drunks (1995), Leaving Las Vegas (1995), The Elevator (1996), The Maze (1997), Hugo Pool (1998), Game Day (1999), Confessions of an Action Star (2005), Vamps (2012), She's Funny That Way (2014), Bucky and the Squirrels (2015) and Sandy Wexler (2017), his last. He died from a heart attack.
