Tall, burly, dark-haired French-Algerian actor seen in a wide variety of product - prestige films, international action flicks of the 1960s and erotic dramas of the 1950s, before becoming a silver-haired character actor and occasional director. Born Roger Levy, he made his film debut in The Road to Damascus (1952) and soon ran up dozens of credits: Poison Ivy (1953), Human Cargo (1954, The Wicked Go to Hell (1955), Escapade (1957), Tamango (1958), Riff Raff Girls (1959), A Bout de Souffle/Breathless (1959), Rocco and His Brothers (1960), The Miracle of the Wolves/Blood on His Sword (1961), Code Name: Tiger (1964), An Orchid for the Tiger (1965), The Brides of Fu Manchu (1966), They Came to Rob Las Vegas (1968), Devil's Ransom (1970), The Revengers (1972), The Protector (1974), Le Sucre (1978), Le Coup de Sirocco (1979), Les Miserables (1982), Hell Train (1985) and L'Orchestra Rouge (1989). From the mid 1990s until 2008, he became a regular in French TV movies, his last cinema-film appearance coming in Soleil (1997). He died from respiratory failure.
