Monica Lewis

Born - 5 May 1922, Chicago, Illinois, USA
Died - 12 June 2015

Vivacious, curvaceous brown-eyed blonde, a cross between Doris Day and Rosemary Clooney but, despite a vibrant singing voice and dancing talent too, not as successful as either in films. But she did become an indefatigable entertainer of troops through World War Two and the Korean War. Born May Bloom, she was a radio vocalist at 17, then belatedly signed (and wasted) by MGM in post-war years: Inside Straight (1950), Excuse My Dust (1951), The Strip (1951), Everything I Have is Yours (1952), Affair with a Stranger (1953) and The DI (1957). Later she married producer Jennings Lang, made appearances in TV drama and returned to films for assorted cameos: Charley Varrick (1973), Rollercoaster (1977), The Concorde...Airport '79 (1979), The Sting II (1983), Stick (1985) and Dead Heat (1988), her last.
