Born in Italy, but raised in Canada, Rosato made his debut in a Canadian film, The Silent Partner in 1978. Later credits include Hog Wild (1980), Improper Channels (1981), Utilities (1983), Busted Up (1986), Hearts of Fire (1987), Switching Channels (1988), Brown Bread Sandwiches (1989), Mystery Date (1991), Conspiracy of Fear (1995), Family Plan (1997) and Seeds of Doubt (1998). Returning after his health problems, he made Real Gangsters (2012), It Was You, Charlie (2013), The Christmas Switch (2014), The Big Fat Stone (2014), No Deposit (2015) and Born Dead (2016), his last. He died from a heart attack.
