Georgia Carroll

Singer/actress

Born - 18 November 1919, Blooming Grove, Texas, USA
Died - 14 January 2011

Silkily beautiful blonde singer and fashion plate whose ambitions to be a star actress rather ended when she married bandleader Kay Kyser in 1944. After modelling work, she embarked on a singing career and joined the popular Navy Blues Sextette, making her screen debut in a short called Chinese Garden Festival (1940). She had small parts, sometimes just as a singer, in Maisie Was a Lady (1941), Mr & Mrs Smith (1941), Navy Blues (1941), You're in the Army Now (1941), The Man Who Came to Dinner (1942), Thousands Cheer (1943) and DuBarry was a Lady (1943), plus somewhat more substantial ones in Play Girl (1941), Yankee Doodle Dandy (1942) and The Falcon's Brother (1942). She joined the Kyser band (the 'Kollege of Musical Knowledge') in 1943. Kay billed her as 'Gorgeous Georgia' and married her the following year. While with the band, she made Around the World (1943), Girl Crazy (1943) and Carolina Blues (1944). After numerous USO appearances entertaining forces in the Pacific during World War Two, she left the band to raise a family in 1946 and thereafter appeared only in the short subjects Off the Air (1947) and Hawaii in Hollywood (1948). Kyser died in 1985.
