Tall, bespectacled. frizzy-haired eccentric comedian, satirist and the voice of many Warner Brothers cartoon characters from the 1940s onward. Born Stanley Friberg, he also recorded such popular novelty songs as John and Marsha and St George and the Dragonet. His first cartoon credit was as Junyer Bear in Bugs Bunny and the Three Bears (1944). Live-action film appearances were rare: The Star Said No (1951, a riot as the crying crooner in Geraldine (1953), the voice of the yawning man in tom thumb (1958) and It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World (1963). But he continued providing voices for Warners' short cartoons and features until 2003. He died from pneumonia and respiratory problems.
