Ed Nelson

Actor

Born - 21 December 1928, New Orleans, Lousiana, USA
Died - 9 August 2014

Square-jawed, classically good-looking, solidly built American actor, the hero of a fistful of 'monster' movies in the 1950s and early 1960s. Soon after, he found his greatest popularity as Michael Rossi in the long-running TV series of Peyton Place in the mid to late 1960s. The mop of hair turned grey, he later played patrician character roles on films and (mostly) TV. After television work in New Orleans, he moved to Hollywood films, often for producer/director Roger Corman, and often billed as Edwin Nelson, his full name: The Steel Trap (1952), Riot on Pier 6 (1955), Attack of the Crab Monsters (1957), Invasion of the Saucer Men (1957), Teenage Cave Man (1958), The Brain Eaters (1958), A Bucket of Blood (1959), Code of Silence (1960), Devil's Partner (1961), Soldier in the Rain (1963) and The Man from Galveston (1963). After Peyton Place, he was less seen in movies: Time to Run (1973), Airport 1975 (1974), Midway (1976), Acapulco Gold (1978), Police Academy 3: Back in Training (1986), Brenda Starr (1989), The Boneyard (1991), Sister Island (1996), Who Am I? (1998) and Runaway Jury (2003), his last. Married to his wife Patricia for 63 years, he died from congestive heart failure.
