Slightly sad-looking American character actor, latterly moustachioed and bearded, who turned to acting in the late 1950s after 20 years as a businessman. Mostly a man of the theatre, his film appearances included those in The Monitors (1969), T.R.Baskin/A Date With a Lonely Girl (1971), Harry and Tonto (1974), Towing (1978), Fatal Attraction (1987), House of Games (1987), Things Change (1988), Field of Dreams (1989), Desperate Hours (1990), Gladiator (1992), The Water Engine (1992), Losing Isaiah (1994), Steal Big, Steal Little (1995), Men in Black (1997), Flying (2002), Dirty Work (2006), Osso Bucco (2008), Nostalgic (2014), Time of Your Life (2019) and The Old Country (2021), his last. He was married for 56 years until his first wife died. He remarried in 2004. Born Myron Nussbaum, the long-lived actor died just six days short of his 100th birthday.
