Louise LaPlanche

Actress

Born - 6 September 1919, Los Angeles, California, USA
Died - 7 September 2012

Ravishing dark-haired beauty who decorated many a 1940s' cast in cute cameos, but never rose to the cult leading roles played by her better-known sister, Rosemary LaPlanche, who died from cancer at just 56. Both were beauty queens, but Louise had another claim to fame: she was for many years the only surviving member of the cast of the 1923 version of The Hunchback of Notre Dame, in which she played Esmeralda as a young child. Alas, roles as an adult were all 'bits', although there were plenty of them, including fleeting appearances in Strike Up the Band (1940), Louisiana Purchase (1941), This Gun for Hire (1942), Road to Morocco (1942), For Whom the Bell Tolls (1943), Here Come the Waves (1944), Bring on the Girls (1945) and more than 20 others. In later life, after her husband died, she returned to acting and appeared equally briefly in Memories of Me (1988) and Dutch (1991). She was diagnosed with colonic cancer at 90, but lived on for a further three years.
