Tom Sizemore

Actor

Born - 29 November 1961, Detroit, Michigan, USA
Died - 18 February 2023

Tough-looking, square-faced, stubble-chinned, thickly-built American actor with tufty brown hair whose personal problems hit more headlines than his solid acting. Decades earlier, the gruff-voiced Sizemore would have been a certainty for rugged sergeants in war films, although even in modern times, he managed a couple in Saving Private Ryan and Pearl Harbor. After years of sullen supporting characters, he got a leading role in The Relic but still looked more effective giving top support to the stars. A one-time heroin addict, he later counselled teenagers enmeshed in drug abuse. He was given six months' jail in 2003 for attacking his then-lover, but worked furiously hard in his last years. Married and divorced from actress Maeve Quinlan, his many films included Rude Awakening (1989), Lock Up (1989), Blue Steel (1990), Guilty by Suspicion (1990), Point Break (1991), Passenger 57 (1992), True Romance (1993), Striking Distance (1993), Natural Born Killers (1994), Heat (1995), Devil in a Blue Dress (1995), The Relic (1996), Saving Private Ryan (1998), Enemy of the State (1998), Bringing Out the Dead (1999), Red Planet (2000), Pearl Harbor (2001), Big Trouble (2002), Dreamcatcher (2003), Born Killers (2005), Game of Life (2007), Red (2008), Bad Ass (2010), Slumber Party Slaughter (2012), The Colombian Connection (2014), Durant's Never Closes (2016), Black Wake (2018, and nine more this year), Cross: Rise of the Villains (2019), Hell Hole (2020), Blood Runs Thick (2021), The Legend of Jack and Diane (2022, and nine more again this year) and Bermuda Island (2023), his last - almost 200 in all. He died from a ruptured brain aneurysm following a stroke.
