Richard Pearson

Actor

Born - 1 August 1918, Monmouth, Gwent, Wales
Died - 2 August 2011

Sheepish-looking, solidly-built character player with small eyes, rosy cheeks and wavy, unruly hair, a master at diffident or apologetic professional men, whose theatrical career was far more distinguished and varied than his film and TV roles would suggest. He began a stage career in 1937, and the following year made the film short An Act of Mercy. War service intervened, and it took Pearson a while to establish himself as a respected actor in peacetime. Stage success was followed by more film work: A Run for Your Money (1949), The Woman in Question (1950), The Clouded Yellow (1950), Scrooge (1951), The Blue Parrot (1953), Svengali (1954), Sea Fury (1958), Libel (1959), The Man in the Moon (1961), The Comedy Man (1963), One-Way Pendulum (1964), Charlie Bubbles (1967), Sunday Bloody Sunday (1970), Pope Joan (1972), Royal Flash (1975), Tess (1979), Water (1985) and Whoops Apocalypse (1986), his last. He married the actress Patricia Dickson in 1949.
