Bert I Gordon

Director

Born - 24 September 1922, Kenosha, Wisconsin, USA
Died - 6 March 2023

The current release, Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey, was the kind of film one imagines Bert I Gordon would have loved to have made (only better). The self-styled 'king of the monsters' was a short, cherubic, brown-haired man who made low-budget, cult horror films, often about animals or humans swollen to giant size. He broke into movies by directing his own story King Dinosaur in 1955 and subsequently made, among others, Beginning of the End (1956), The Cyclops (1957), The Amazing Colossal Man (1957), Attack of the Puppet People (1958), War of the Colossal Beast (1958), The Spider (1958), The Boy and the Pirates (1959), Tormented (1960), Famous Ghost Stories (1961), The Magic Sword (1962), Village of the Giants (1965), Picture Mommy Dead (1966), Necromancy (1972), The Food of the Gods (1976), Empire of the Ants (1977), Burned at the Stake (1981), Let's Do It! (1982), The Big Bet (1987) and Satan's Princess (1989). Much later, he returned to the director's chair for one last fling, with Secrets of a Psychopath (2015). Actress Susan Gordon, who appeared in several of his films, was one of his three daughters. He died at 100 after collapsing at his home. The I stood for Ira.
