Jack Ong

Expansive Chinese-American actor who played many supporting roles in Hollywood films. The seventh of eight children of Chinese immigrants, Ong was a photo-journalist with the US Navy in the Vietnam War who worked in film publicity after leaving the navy, then drifted into acting. In later years, he also became a licensed minister with the Missionary Church. After a lone film debut in When the North Wind Blows (1974), he began to come into demand for movie roles in the late 1980s: For Keeps (1988),, The Iron Triangle (1989), China Cry (1990), I Don't Buy Kisses Anymore (1992), It Runs in the Family (1994), Hindsight (1996), Cannes Man (1997), Teacher's Pet (2000), Brother (2000), Bokshu the Myth (2002), Game Box 1.0 (2004), Art School Confidential (2006), Akeelah and the Bee (2006), Next (2007) and the short Journey of a Paper Son (2011), his last. He died from brain cancer.
