Tawny-haired, dark-eyed English actress of girlish appeal, an asset that got her one of the leads in a Hollywood movie at 22. Early years in the film capital proved unproductive, and she returned to rebuild her career in England: The Girls of Pleasure Island (1953), It's Great to Be Young! (1956), A Touch of the Sun (1956), Small Hotel (1957), Zoo Baby (1957), The Criminal (1960), The Servant (1963) and Jemima and Johnny (1966), her last. After that, she taught drama. First husband was director Joseph Losey. second (after a long-term partnership) was Irish actor Brian Phelan, who died two days after her. Later in life, she wrote a book on needlework.
