Russell Arms

Actor/singer

Born - 3 February 1920, Berkeley, California, USA
Died - 13 February 2012

Dashingly handsome American actor with dark, wavy hair. His acting career was blighted by war service, but he became a successful radio singer from the early 1950s. Signed by Warners in his early twenties, Arms had decent roles in The Man Who Came to Dinner (1941), Captains of the Clouds (1942), Wings for the Eagle (1942) and Always in My Heart (1942) before enlisting in the Signal Corps. Five years on and he returned to Warners, but his roles - in Deception (1947), Life with Father (1947), That Way with Women (1947) and Wallflower (1948) - were negligible. He left the studio to become a singing star, only returning to play Doris Day's rejected suitor in By the Light of the Silvery Moon (1953). Most of his other roles were in low-budget westerns, including Tornado Range (1948), Loaded Pistols (1948) and Sons of New Mexico (1949). He continued to act on TV, though, until the mid 1980s, his last feature-length work being the 1978 TV movie Bud and Lou.
