Trimly attractive brunette (sometimes blonde) American leading lady of serials and 'B' features, including westerns starring Tim Holt. Born Norabelle Roth, and a beauty contest winner, she entered films in 1943, her crisp acting style keeping her busy for two decades: Girl Crazy (1943), Mrs Parkington (1944), The Southerner (1945), Monsieur Beaucaire (1946), The Red Stallion (1947), Adventures of Casanova (1948), The Checkered Coat (1948), Storm Over Wyoming (1950), Aladdin and His Lamp (1951), Road Agent (1952), We're Not Married! (1952), Phantom from Space (1953), The Body Beautiful (1954), Giant (1956), The Lone Ranger and the Lost City of Gold (1958) and Wake Me When It's Over (1960), her last. Later a published novelist and historian, she died at 99, exactly the same age as her mother. Her first husband, a doctor, died in 2000, and she married actor James Whitmore the following year. He died in 2009.
