Harry Lewis

Actor/restaurateur

Born - 1 April 1920, Los Angeles, California, USA
Died - 9 June 2013

Good-looking, mean-eyed actor with fair, wavy hair whose career barely got started before war service. Although his characters were often on the right side of the law, he's probably best remembered as Edward G Robinson's 'torpedo', Toots, in 1948's Key Largo. Two years after that, he and his wife opened the Hamburger Hamlet restaurant to cater to fast food-hungry stars; it blossomed into a profitable chain, the Lewises eventually selling for 33 million dollars after owning the eateries for nearly 50 years. Under contract to Warners, he made his debut in They Died With Their Boots On (1941) - a busy year for him, when he made five other films - followed by Captains of the Clouds (1942), Desperate Journey (1942), Air Force (1943), The Hard Way (1943),The Last Ride (1944), Her Kind of Man (1946), The Unsuspected (1947), Whiplash (1948), Gun Crazy (1950), The Fat Man (1951), The Girl in Room 17 (1953), The Harder They Fall (1956), Pendulum (1968), and The Astral Factor (1976), his last.
