Polo Ortin

Born - 16 April 1928, Mexico City, Mexico
Died - 16 August 2016

Blackly bearded and moustachioed Mexican comic actor, also seen in light dramatic roles. Born Leopoldo Ortin, he made his film debut as a child, in Neighbourhood Lights (1939). Occasional credits thereafter included Maria Candelaria (1944), Dos Tenorios de Barrio (1949) and Tehuantepec (1954). But the main body of his film career began a couple of years later: he would go on to make more than 200 film appearances, including those in Spring in the Heart (1956), The Last Rebel (1958), Santa Claus (1959), El Jinete Negro (1961), Twilight of a God (1969), Night of Death (1975), El Coyote y la Bronca (1980), Teatro Follies (1983), Los Albureros (1988), The Waco, Texas Tragedy (1993), Mi Yegua Bronca (1998) and Emiliano Cadena: El Mexicano 2 (2007), his last, although he continued appearing on stage and TV until 2015. The prolific Ortin, who made 14 films in 1989 alone, died from bronchitis and heart problems.
