Born - 10 February 1932, Halifax, Yorkshire, England
Died - 23 January 2015

Tall, strapping English actor with brown hair and pleasant features, mainly a stage performer and (later) voice-over artist, although he also made some films, notably as the famous outlaw in A Challenge for Robin Hood (1967). After beginnings in local theatre, he moved into TV from the late 1950s, films a couple of years later: The Fourth Square (1961), Number Six (1962), Dr Who and the Daleks (1965), Company of Fools (1966), The Day of the Jackal (1973) and Sparkling Cyanide (1983), his last feature, although he continued to act on stage and TV, notably in the small-screen special Jekyll and Hyde: The Musical in 2001, by which time he was comfortably playing ageing aristocrats. He and his wife of 57 years had four children.
