Heather Chasen

Born - 20 July 1927, Singapore, South-East Asia
Died - 22 May 2020

Predatory-looking blonde character actress of pinched attractiveness, mostly seen in comedy, and for many years a stalwart of radio's long-running series The Navy Lark. Schooled in Malaysia until the Japanese invasion of WW2, she and her family fled Singapore for England in 1942, where she became a busy stage and television performer until a few years before her death at almost 93; her film appearances, however, were scattered and not particularly distinguished: Meet the Duke (1948), Suburban Wives (1972), Naughty! (1974), The Deadly Females (1976), The Toybox (2005), Season of Mists (2009), Cat Run (2011) and Les Miserables (2012), her last. Outspokenly and flamboyantly bisexual, her female partners included actress Amanda Barrie and novelist Patricia Highsmith, while she also married and had a son, sometime actor Rupert Webster, who survives her.
