Actor

Born - 10 December 1923, New York, USA
Died - 11 September 2010

Foxy, sly-looking, often moustachioed and latterly with distinctive slivery hair, this roguish character actor, born Harold Goldstein, lectured in drama at a California university before taking up an acting career at 36. His wolfish smile became familiar to millions of TV viewers in the 1970s as Martin Morgenstern in Rhoda. A decade later, he had another long-running assignment as Miles Webber in The Golden Girls. His films, in which he often played sophisticated sharpies, included Two for the Seesaw (1961), The Satan Bug (1964), The Moving Target (1966), The Arrangement (1969), Mrs Pollifax - Spy (1971), The Sting (1973), The Front Page (1974), The Big Bus (1976), Seems Like Old Times (1980), Romero (1989), Patch Adams (1998), Stuart Little (1999), Freaky Friday (2003) and English As a Second Language (2005), his last. He celebrated his diamond wedding just a few weeks before his death from prostate cancer.
