Wry-faced Afro-American character actor, mostly on TV. A former police officer who turned to acting in his thirties, McKnight's film CV included appearances in The Candidate (1972), Lifeguard (1976), as J.D. in J.D.'s Revenge (1976), Coma (1978), Dangerous Company (1982), Hollywood Shuffle (1987), A Tale of Hemlock (1989), Pump Up the Volume (1990), The Five Heartbeats (1991), Under Siege (1992), The Glass Shield (1994), Sprung (1997) and Superhero Movie (2008), his last. Work in the last decade of his life included the TV movies A Husband for Christmas (2016), Sharing Christmas (2017) and A Christmas for Mary (2020). He died from cancer.
