Jill Gascoine

Actress

Born - 11 April 1937, Lambeth, London, England
Died - 28 April 2020

Friendly-looking English actress with a mass of dark, curly hair who began as a 15-year-old chorus girl in pantomime and survived a semi-nude appearance in a British sex comedy film to prove herself as a dramatic actress who became the hard-hitting Detective Inspector Maggie Forbes in The Gentle Touch, a TV series that ran for five years and more than 50 episodes. She later reprised the character, now turned private detective, in another TV series, C.A.T.S. Eyes. When it finished in 1987, she re-located to Hollywood with her (second) husband, actor Alfred Molina, who survives her. Rare films on her CV included The White Trap (1959), The Pure Hell of St Trinian's (1960), Confessions of a Pop Performer (1975), The Three Kisses (1978), King of the Wind (1990), Red Hot (1993), BASEketball (1998) and TV Virus (2007), her last. She died from Alzheimer's Disease, having spent the last six years of her life in a care home.
