Terence Alexander

Actor

Born - 11 March 1923, London, England
Died - 28 May 2009

Debonair, dark-haired portrayer of foxy smoothies in British films, an actor since he was 16. He made his film debut in Comin' Thro' the Rye in 1947, as Scottish poet Robert Burns (!), but the 1950s were his most prolific movie period, and he was soon in dozens of roles as comedy relief, upper-class charmer or light villain. The best of these was his ideal casting as part of The League of Gentleman in 1959. His last film role was in An Ideal Husband (1999), by which time he had become familiar to TV viewers for his role as millionaire tax exile Charlie Hungerford in the long-running detective series Bergerac. Married to the actresses Juno Stevas and Jane Downs (the latter surviving him), he had, in his last years, been suffering from Parkinson's Disease.
