Slim-faced but solidly-built, often moustachioed, gap-toothed Afro-American actor, best recalled as Tom Selleck's helicopter-pilot pal in scores of episodes of the long-running (1980-88) Magnum P.I. series on TV. Film appearances include those in Precinct 45: Los Angeles Police (1972), The Mack (1973), Terminal Island (1973), McQ (1974), Darktown Strutters (1975), Drum (1976), Stay Hungry (1976), The Greatest (1977), Semi-Tough (1977), The Other Side of Hell (1978), Steel (1979), The White Lions (1981), Heart Condition (1990), Unlawful Entry (1992), Penthathlon (1994), A Thin Line Between Love and Hate (1996), Letters from a Killer (1998) and Hammerlock (2000), his last, although he continued TV appearances for 20 years. Survived by his long-time partner and later wife Toni, he died from injuries sustained in a car crash. The E stood for Earl.
