Tall, dark-haired, good-looking American performer with wire-rimmed glasses, initially an actor who later formed a comedy duo with comedian/character actor Tommy Noonan, before entering a second career as a TV emcee after Noonan's early death. Born Ralph LaCock (actress Joanne Dru was his sister), his films include The Return of Jesse James (1949), Holiday Rhythm (1950), Starlift (1951), The 49th Man (1953), Manhattan Tower (1956), The Rookie (1959), Swingin' Along (1961), Ensign Pulver (1964), Maryjane (1968), Rabbit Test (1978), Americathon (1979), Annie (1982), Last Dance (1993), Teddy Bears' Picnic (2001) and the short Minimize Me (2011), his last. Three times married, he had four children and died from kidney failure at 98.
