Evelyn Dall

Singer-actress

Born - 8 January 1918, Bronx, New York, USA
Died - 10 March 2010

Anyone who bought the Arthur Askey DVD box set will know Evelyn Dall (born Evelyn Fuss). Blonde, vivacious, well-rounded and peppy, she brightened up a number of comedy-musicals during her 12-year stay in Britain, during which time she was professionally and privately associated with bandleader Bert Ambrose, but eventually married an American in 1947. A strong, energetic singer, she was on stage at 15 and made her film debut in a short, The Inventors (1934). The following year she came to England, and quickly established herself in nightclubs and variety halls. There were feature films, too: Soft Lights and Sweet Music (1936), Sing As You Swing (1937), Calling All Stars (1937), Kicking the Moon Around (1938), He Found a Star (1941), King Arthur Was a Gentleman (1942), Miss London Ltd (1943), Time Flies (1944), and another short, Meet Evelyn Dall (1946), her last before she returned to America.
