Vigorous, youthful-looking American writer, producer and director, who enjoyed tremendous success in TV comedy series, often in partnership with Norman Lear, before turning to films. Born Alan Yorkin, he was directing on TV in his late twenties, working with Jack Benny, Fred Astaire, Danny Kaye and others. After a debut film with Frank Sinatra, Come Blow Your Horn (1963), he made, among others, Never Too Late (1965), Divorce American Style (1967), Start the Revolution Without Me (1969), The Thief Who Came to Dinner (1973), Twice in a Lifetime (1985), Arthur 2: On the Rocks (1988) and Love Hurts (1990), his last.
