Dark-eyed, round-faced, award-winning French director whose film Entre les Murs/The Class won the Palme d'Or at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival. Other credits include Tous a la Manif (1994), Les Sanguinaires (1997), Human Resources (1999), Time Out (2001), Heading South (2006), 7 Days in Havana (2010), Foxfire: Confessions of a Girl Gang (2012), Return to Ithica (2014), The Workshop (2017) and Arthur Rambo (2021), his last. He died from cancer at only 63.
