Perky, feisty blonde entertainer, who was both a child violin prodigy and a Playboy centrefold before embarking on an acting career in which she soon developed a facility for deadpan comedy. Born Joan McConchie, she appeared as an eight-year-old violinist in The Emperor Waltz before embarking on film roles at 20, in between posing for a multiplicity of pin-ups: Bells Are Ringing (1960), Ocean's 11 (1960), Dondi (1961), The Ladies Man (1961), female lead in Gun Street and Valley of the Dragons (both 1961), Cape Fear (1962), Johnny Cool (1963), Kissin' Cousins (1964), Roustabout (1964), The Ghost and Mr Chicken (1966) and Gunpoint (1966), her last film, although she continued acting on TV until 1982. In later years, she ran a talent agency with her second husband, producer Dale Sheets (director Chuck Staley was her first). She died from heart failure.
