Michael Clarke Duncan

Actor

Born - 10 December 1957, Chicago, Illinois, USA
Died - 3 September 2012

Genial, giant-sized American actor with deep bass voice and the widest smile in movies. After a period as a ditch-digger, he moved to Hollywood, where work as a bodyguard and stuntman led to roles on TV from 1991 and films from 1996. Three years later, he was nominated for an Academy Award for his moving performance in The Green Mile. Impossible to miss on screen, he was busy from there on in, until his death at 54 following a heart attack. After a film debut in Friday (1996), Clarke Duncan was also seen in Back to Business (1997), Armageddon (1998), Breakfast of Champions (1999), The Whole Nine Yards (2000), Planet of the Apes (2001), The Scorpion King (2002), Daredevil (2003), Pursued (2004), Sin City (2005), The Island (2005), School for Scoundrels (2006), Talladega Nights: the Ballad of Ricky Bobby (2006), The Last Mimzy (2007), Welcome Home, Roscoe Jenkins (2008), The Slammin' Salmon (2009), Redemption Road (2010), The Sibling (2011) and The Challenger (2012), his last. His rumbling tones were also heard on many voice-overs, including those in Kung Fu Panda (2008) and Green Lantern (2011). Would have made a marvellous Moose Malloy in an all-black production of Farewell, My Lovely.
