Arte Johnson

Comedian/actor

Born - 20 January 1929, Benton Harbor, Michigan, USA
Died - 3 July 2019

Diminutive comic actor with sandy hair and puckish, round-faced features, often seen in glasses. Although busy in films and TV over a 50-year period, he's best remembered for his catchphrase 'Very interesting!' on the 1960s' TV sensation Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In. The phrase, and the show, took the world by storm over an all-too-brief two-year period, and Johnson was one of its mainstays throughout. He had begun on TV in 1954, with occasional films following a couple of years later: Miracle in the Rain (1956), The Wild and the Innocent (1959, The Subterraneans (1960), That Funny Feeling (1965), The President's Analyst (1967), New Face in Hell (1968), Call Holme (1972), Charge of the Model Ts (1977), Love at First Bite (1979), Cannonball Run II (1984), What Comes Around (1985), A Night at the Magic Castle (1988), Evil Spirits (1990), Munchie (1992), Captiva Island (1995) and The Modern Adventures of Tom Sawyer (1998), his last. He died from bladder and prostate cancer.
