Solidly-built, sandy-haired Hollywood bit-part player, almost always in westerns as townsmen or barflies. Born Walter Booth, he travelled with a Wild West Show, developing riding skills, before becoming associated with TV, then cinema westerns, from the late 1940s: Distant Drums (1951), Wagons West (1952), Cattle Town (1952), King of the Khyber Rifles (1953), Battle of Rogue River (1954), Man With the Gun/The Trouble Shooter (1955), Star in the Dust (1956), 3:10 to Yuma (1957), Ride a Crooked Trail (1958), Cast a Long Shadow (1959), Cimarron (1960), The Gambler Wore a Gun (1961), Apache Rifles (1964), Cat Ballou (1965), Shenandoah (1965), Texas Across the River (1966), Gunfight in Abilene (1967), The Shakiest Gun in the West (1968), The Good Guys and the Bad Guys (1969), Support Your Local Gunfighter (1971), High Plains Drifter (1973), The Apple dumpling Gang (1975), Treasure of Matecumbe (1976), Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979), his last, and dozens more. He died from Parkinson's Disease.
