Pretty, round-faced, brown-haired American actress, a radio singer at 13 and under contract to RKO-Radio at 15. After teenage roles, including 'Margie' in the Gildersleeve comedies, she broke off her career post-war to study at university for 18 months and had to make her way back to featured roles through 'B' westerns. It was the mid 1950s before she established herself as a leading lady but, after the birth of twins in 1959, she left movies to devote more time to her family, acting in a few TV series before quitting for good 10 years later. Her husband, lawyer/producer William Hayes, died in 1992. After a debut in The Tuttles of Tahiti(1942), she made Hitler's Children (1943), This Land is Mine (1943), Bride by Mistake (1944), The Master Race (1944), The Spanish Main (1945), Cheyenne Takes Over (1947), Check Your Guns (1948), Roll, Thunder, Roll! (1949), Sons of the Musketeers (1952), The Atomic City (1952), Target Hong Kong (1953), Hell's Half Acre (1954), Suddenly (1954), Stranger on Horseback (1955), Top of the World (1955), Beyond the River (1956), World Without End (1956), The Rawhide Trail (1957), Some Came Running (1958), The Gunfight at Dodge City (1959) and Comanche Station (1959), her last.
