Chirpy, brown-haired child player who grew up to be the good-looking star of TV westerns of the 1950s. In The Range Rider, he was the sidekick of the eponymous hero, while Buffalo Bill Jr gave him his own series. A rodeo performer at six, he was taken to Hollywood by cowboy star Hoot Gibson, and was soon in regular employ: Little Men (1934), Babes in Toyland (1934), The Pecos Kid (1935), The Hawk (1935), Westward Ho (1935), Little Lord Fauntleroy (1936), Daniel Boone (1936), Smoke Tree Range (1937), Renfrew of the Royal Mounted (1937), Land of Fighting Men (1938), Destry Rides Again (1939), Mr Smith Goes to Washington (1939), the voice of Disney's Pinocchio (1940), Virginia City (1940), Brigham Young (1940), The Vanishing Virginian (1942), The Adventures of Mark Twain (1944), The Strawberry Roan (1948), Battleground (1949), Rocky Mountain (1950), Fort Worth (1951), The Old West (1952), Last of the Pony Riders (1953), The Bamboo Prison (1954), The Wild Dakotas (1956), The Cool and the Crazy (1958), Shadow of the Boomerang (1960), The Devil's Bedroom (1963) and Requiem for a Gunfighter (1965), his last before going into banking and real estate. He died from a heart attack.
